Candida is a fungus that naturally lives in the human body.

A leaky or permeable gut lining, antibiotic use, and a sugary, gluten-filled diet invite systemic Candida overgrowth.

While Candida is native to the mouth, the digestive tract, and the birth canal, it can overgrow—especially when we are under physical, mental, or emotional stress.

Candida is opportunistic and can change its form when necessary. The two most common forms of Candida are yeast cells and hyphae.

Hyphae are finger-like threads of fungus that can bury into tissue and spread like roots in soil. The hyphal form of Candida is its most destructive form, helping it to infect any area that it can in the human body. This is when Candida overgrowth becomes systemic.

Besides assuming several different forms, Candida also shrouds itself in sticky goo called biofilm. Biofilm allows Candida to colonize the body, while protecting it from the immune system.

And as if that were not enough, the cell wall of Candida can change its composition and influence the immune system—making Candida overgrowth very difficult to control.

Any protocol designed to control Candida overgrowth must attack the issue at several different levels. This includes:

  • Controlling Candida yeast overgrowth in the gut, mouth, and birth canal.
  • Tearing down Candida biofilm.
  • Destroying the cell wall of Candida.

The Cell Wall of Candida

Candida is opportunistic yeast found in the mouth, digestive tract, and birth canal. Candida overgrowth becomes systemic when Candida spreads to destroy and infect the body.

The cell wall of Candida is made up of mostly sugars and proteins. The most important sugars that make up the cell wall of Candida are called beta-glucans. (1) Beta-glucans are fibrous sugars that you would find in the bran of grains and the woody part of plants.

The beta-glucans in the cell wall of Candida can both stimulate an immune response and suppress an immune response. (2)

When our immune system is weakened—whether from poor diet, illness, or emotional stress—it is unable to detect Candida as the fungus builds sticky biofilm or changes into its invasive hyphal form. (3)

Beta-glucans are used by Candida to construct its sticky and protective biofilm. Enzymes that break down Candida’s cell wall and biofilm help to fully expose beta-glucans and activate an immune response against Candida overgrowth. (4)

Featured in Body Ecology’s new Digestive Care Multi, hemicellulase is a group of enzymes that targets Candida overgrowth. This is because hemicellulase contains enzymes that break apart the cell wall of Candida, reducing its ability to hide from the immune system and invade tissue.

Hemicellulase also helps to break down the tough “roughage” found in fruits, vegetables, and grains. When left undigested, these fibrous sugars can slow digestion and prevent the absorption of nutrients.

In the gut, hemicellulase can manage or prevent Candida overgrowth.

Once hemicellulase is available in the bloodstream, it can also help to control systemic yeast overgrowth.

What Are Systemic Enzymes?

Research has found that the body naturally secretes digestive enzymes into the bloodstream, where they can tackle systemic disease. (5)

The enzymes found in raw foods and those that we take as a supplement mostly remain in the gut. However, when we take supplemental enzymes between meals—especially in slightly larger doses—these enzymes can show up in the bloodstream. (6)

A leaky or permeable gut lining, antibiotic use, and a sugary, gluten-filled diet invite systemic Candida overgrowth. Candida can travel in the bloodstream, infecting the sinus cavities and practically every organ in the body, including the skin and the brain.

Controlling Candida with Enzymes and Strains of Bacteria/Yeast

To control Candida overgrowth in the gut, it is essential to incorporate:

  • Enzymes like hemicellulase that help destroy the cell walls of Candida, keeping its aggressive behavior in check.
  • Specific strains of bifidobacterium and beneficial yeast, such as saccharomyces boulardii, that help restore balance to the inner ecosystem, making it difficult for Candida to grow out of control. Donna created a special blend of these strains in the new Digestive Care Multi.

The best way to control both digestive and systemic Candida overgrowth is to follow Body Ecology’s 4 Steps to Healing:

1. Create Energy

2. Correct Digestion

3. Conquer Infection

4. Cleanse Toxins

A fast and simple way to address all 4 Steps to Healing is Donna’s newly formulated Digestive Care Multi, with ingredients to improve elimination, cleanse the liver, boost energy and immunity, balance hormones, detoxify heavy metals and radiation, heal the gut lining, and restore proper flora balance to the inner ecosystem.

What To Remember Most About This Article:

Candida is a fungus naturally found in the human body - in the mouth, digestive tract, and birth canal. However, it’s easy for Candida to overgrow when the body is under physical, mental, or emotional stress.

Candida can assume a number of forms and may be protected in sticky biofilm that shields it from the immune system. To attack Candida, it’s important to control overgrowth in the mouth, gut, and birth canal by tearing down biofilm and destroying Candida cell walls.

Candida overgrowth can be effectively controlled by:

  • Using enzymes like hemicellulase to destroy Candida cell walls.
  • Restoring balance to the inner ecosystem with specific strains of bifidobacterium and beneficial yeast, such as saccharomyces boulardii, found in the new Digestive Care Multi.

Is this a 100% vegetarian product? Please let me know as I cannot take animal based edible products.

How long should it take till candida is in check so that one could resume eating a well balanced diet with all fruits and all grains and maybe the occasional piece of birthday cake without worrying that the imbalance will take over again. I have had this for 18 months. Duflucon taken for 3 months and my psoriasis almost totally gone along with a good deal of my hair, but candida came back after I stopped taking it.

The idea of using enzyme is very uncommon. I think it is a promising solution. I tried probiotics and i have been disappointed about it. It would have been you if you offered a product that only contained enzymes.

    Hi,

I was wondering if the Digestive Care Multi is safe for breastfeeding. My concern is mainly about the detox aspect, as I would not want any toxins to be released into my breast milk to my baby.Thank you, >Amy

I would like to know if Digestive Care Multi is safe for children (age 10), as well as for dogs. Thank you!

Hi! I could use some clarification please... the suggested usage is one packet w/each meal; however, in the article above, it seems to suggest taking these enzymes between meals:

"However, when we take supplemental enzymes between meals—especially in slightly larger doses—these enzymes can show up in the bloodstream. (6)

A leaky or permeable gut lining, antibiotic use, and a sugary, gluten-filled diet invite systemic Candida overgrowth. Candida can travel in the bloodstream, infecting the sinus cavities and practically every organ in the body, including the skin and the brain."

    Thanks!

Rinsing your mouth with a solution of baking soda and water before bed also helps control candida. One teaspoon baking soda in cup of structured water is the recipe I read about. It also helps keep teeth healthy. Cheers
