The Incredible but Unknown Healthy Hangover Remedy

You wake to the alarm clock screeching, your head pounds, you’re dizzy, and your stomach feels queasy. You start to regret that last glass of wine you had at the neighbor’s party last night. Too much alcohol affects your kidneys, liver, stomach and small intestines, which explains some of what is happening in your body. Dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, gastrointestinal disturbances and sleep disruption are some of the results. Alcohol also depletes the body of magnesium and B vitamins and weakens the immune system.

I don’t recommend drinking alcohol at all – but I know in the real world, especially during the holiday season, it happens. Suffering the following morning with a headache, moodiness, nausea, shaking, poor coordination and loss of cognitive function—some of the more common symptoms of a hangover—you regret your decision. The dehydration and depletion of electrolytes cause thirst, dizziness and dry mouth and dry nose. At this point, many people reach for the Alka-seltzer, but Body Ecology has a better solution.

Word of Caution: Never take the pain reliever, acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) for a hangover headache. Tylenol is removed from the bloodstream by the liver, and too much overwhelms the liver causing major liver damage. The combination of alcohol and acetaminophen together puts additional stress on the liver.

Young Coconut Kefir – A Healthy Hangover Remedy and So Much More

Young Coconut Kefir is a fermented drink made from the water inside young green coconuts.

Full of healthy microflora and beneficial yeast, it has been found to benefit your stomach, liver and intestines. It’s a smart choice when you wake up with a hangover. In fact, some of our customers tell us they have Young Coconut Kefir before they have a glass of wine to counteract the negative effects of alcohol. Another customer wrote to tell us she dilutes her occasional glass of wine with Young Coconut Kefir because she loves the taste. She’s definitely noticed that this has eliminated the wine’s negative side effects.

Fermented properly, young coconut kefir has a similar taste to wine; if you put in a few drops of a colored liquid—like pomegranate juice—it even looks like wine. Both are sour.

You can read the simple process for making Young Coconut Kefir here, and you can order your Kefir Starter here (it comes with 6 packets, an excellent deal since each packet can make up to 7 fresh batches of the coconut kefir.)

Young Coconut Kefir, a delicious, easy to make fermented drink provides a wide range of important health benefits to you. While it can certainly help you quickly eliminate a hangover, it can also help you improve your health in other important ways.

Benefits of Young Coconut Kefir

When I was first introduced to young green coconuts, I recognized their potential as a superfood. However, I knew that alone, they are way too sweet—and sure it tastes great—but you’re drinking a glass of sugar. While it may contain electrolytes, like potassium, the sugar is robbing your body of minerals and making it too acidic.

Knowing that fermenting foods removes the damaging effects of sugars (even natural sugars) and tremendously increases health benefits, I created Young Coconut Kefir. Over the years, our customers have been sending in rave reviews for what this deliciously-sour fermented drink does for their health.

Benefits Of Drinking Young Coconut Kefir

  • Can help stop sugar and alcohol cravings.
  • Aids digestion of all foods.
  • Has a toning effect on the intestines, even flattening the abdomen!
  • Helps maintain youthful skin, with many people reporting a better complexion. Additionally, you may notice brown age spots on the skin fading away — and skin tags, moles or warts drying up and disappearing.
  • Contains high levels of valuable minerals, including potassium, natural sodium, and chloride, which explains why hair, skin and nails become stronger and have a prettier shine.
  • Appears to have a beneficial cleansing effect on the endocrine system (adrenals, thyroid, pituitary and ovaries). Women find their periods are cleaner and healthier and some who had experienced early menopause have found this important monthly cleansing returning again.
  • Increases energy and gives you an overall feeling of health.
  • Is beneficial for dehydration and hangovers.

If not fermented, coconut water is very sweet and robs your body of precious minerals. To get all the health benefits, make Young Coconut Kefir with a Kefir Starter or even our other vegetable culture starters.

One of Nature’s “Wonder Foods” — Young Green Coconuts

While you may not yet find young green coconuts in your local grocery produce section, they’ve become readily available in Asian, Hispanic, other ethnic stores, farmer’s markets and health food stores (like Whole Foods). Thousands of Body Ecology customers, and parents whose children have autism, now make and drink Young Coconut Kefir daily.

You can get more from your young green coconut than just the liquid. There is also a creamy white pudding-like meat inside. Unlike the harder meat of the mature coconut, there is a soft center lining the shell of the young green coconut that will continue to grow harder as the coconut ages. Technically a seed, this young white meat is high in protein, enzyme-rich and very easy to digest. Like all seeds and nuts, it is a protein fat, and it provides an excellent source of lauric (antiviral) and caprylic (anti-fungal) fatty acids.

Ferment the meat of young green coconuts and you have kefir cheese – a delicious, probiotic-rich alternative to dairy cheese – with antiviral and antifungal benefits.
