Adrenal Fatigue: What Does Adrenal Exhaustion Look Like?
So Where Do Your Adrenals Come Into Play?
The adrenal glands are small, walnut-sized glands located above the kidneys. Their job is to release hormones to respond to stress.
While some of us may physically handle stress better than others, many of us are all-too-familiar with exhausted and overworked adrenal glands that function far below optimal levels.
What Adrenal Exhaustion Looks Like
At some point in life, adrenal fatigue will affect up to 80% of the population1!
Although you may experience signs of fatigue after a long day of work or a night of restless sleep, when adrenal exhaustion sets in, you may feel:
- Tired
- Heavy
- Susceptible to illness
At its most basic level, adrenal exhaustion is a sign that the body can no longer manage the stress hormone cortisol appropriately.
Other physical symptoms of adrenal exhaustion include:
- Weight gain
- Mood changes
- Digestive disorders
- Low libido
- Menstrual cycle irregularity
Once all of these unpleasant symptoms of adrenal fatigue come into play, you’ll not only feel their effects, but you’ll be significantly more susceptible to illness, including the flu. If you find yourself getting sick repeatedly, your adrenal health may be to blame.
