What Everyone Should Know About Kids and The Flu Shot

Are you worried about your child’s exposure to the different strains of influenza? Before you rush to the doctor’s office for a flu shot, get all the facts about vaccinations. You may prefer to arm your kids’ defenses with immunity-boosting probiotics instead.

New test results conducted by the government and a pharmaceutical company both show that children under the age of 10 will likely needtwo H1N1 vaccine shots in order for the dose to be effective.

The same goes for the regular flu shot.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases says that younger children need a double dose in order for full immunity to develop, since this is their first exposure.

For this age group, the protection from one flu shot is “modest but not sufficient to allow for one dose to do the trick,” he said.1

Is A Double Dose of the Flu Vaccine Safe For Your Children?

Is any dose really safe?

According to a recent Associated Press article, pregnant women and young children are among the groups most urged to seek the H1N1 vaccine as soon as it is available.

The choice to vaccinate should be yours and yours alone. But before you make any decisions, it’s important to have the facts.

Dr. Joseph Mercola, a well-respected natural health advocate, shares important facts for you to consider:

  • The effectiveness of any flu vaccine is debatable. The flu often mutates and develops several strains, which are resistant to the original flu shot. Just because you get the flu shot at the beginning of the season doesn’t mean you won’t get the flu.
  • According to the CDC, the majority of flu vaccines contain thimerosal, which contains as much as 25 mcg of mercury per dose. That’s up to 250 times the EPA’s safety limit for mercury!2
  • When you get a vaccine, you expose yourself to the risk of bad, unforeseen reactions, including life-threatening allergies, brain inflammation, neurological disorders, and blood disorders.

Flu Shot or Not, Immunity is Key

You’ve likely heard both sides of the debate about flu shots and H1N1 vaccines. When it comes right down to it, it’s important to educate yourself on the pros and cons, then decide for yourself which path to follow.

In the meantime, whether you and your family get the flu shots or not, there is one critical focus for protecting your health: boosting your immunity.

So how do you boost your immunity? And why is it important?

When you a vaccine, weakened or dead pathogenic cells are injected into your system so that you can develop antibodies to the illness in question. If your immunity is low, you run the risk of dangerous side effects, including neurological effects.

So how do you boost your immunity? Changing your diet and lifestyle are two ways you can support your immune system health. Getting plenty of sleep and a healthy, Body Ecology diet are great options.

Studies also show that probiotics are an excellent way to boost immunity:
