Cleansing To Create A New You
By Donna Gates, as seen on:
When we think of detoxification, the first thing that comes to mind for most of us is a physical detoxification. In other words, cleaning up our diet. But there is a mental and emotional component that is equally as important.
Cleansing is not only your body’s natural way to get rid of waste or toxins, and it occurs daily in some form or another. Tears, urine, mucus, sweat – all are examples of body cleansing that we regard as very normal.
Cleansing allows our bodies to restore balance when the imbalance becomes too great and threatens our lives.
The body is designed to rid itself naturally of toxins and waste, but our exposure to environmental toxins, stress, and prescription drugs drives these toxins deeper into our systems, and they further weaken vital organs.
When we refuse to feel an emotion or when we hang on to an emotion, we create the perfect environment for disease.
Eventually, the weakened organs have no energy to eliminate toxins and fight disease; they give up the fight and the body succumbs.
Spring time in Chinese Medicine is the proper time to cleanse the body. All too often we forget about the most important aspect of a cleanse: Cleaning up our emotional and mental habits!
One of the most common things I hear lecturing is that people feel they jump from cleanse kit to cleanse kit, diet to diet, but their symptoms didn’t get resolved. That is because most of the cleanse kits available on the market today don’t cleanse on a deep cellular level and help you rewire the brain to create a new, healthy, vibrant self-definition.
Cleansing on the physical and mental level go hand and hand. This can be scary. Many of us have difficulty letting go physically and emotionally, especially if we are not working with the mind-body together.
Through techniques such as visualization, affirmations and even prayer, we can strengthen our immune systems and enhance the cleansing/healing process. If we try to heal our bodies but remain angry, stressed or guilty in our minds, the healing will take longer and be more difficult. But if we can cleanse our minds of negative, impure thoughts and emotions, replacing them with joy, love and trust, the physical cleansing and healing will be easier and more fulfilling.
As your physical body cleanses you may feel inexplicably weepy, on edge or angry. Without warning, you may feel like lashing out at someone verbally or even physically. Or you might start crying about something seemingly small. This is all part of the elimination of stored up emotional toxins connected to the physical toxins in your body—just know that these feelings are normal and it’s beneficial to release them in a safe environment.
