The Way to BE

We Just Celebrated World Psoriasis Day 2010 to Raise Awareness of Childhood Psoriasis! Isn't It Time Your Child Is Free from This Skin Disorder?

We just celebrated World Psoriasis Day on October 29, 2010, which is a worldwide event focusing on raising awareness for psoriasis sufferers everywhere.

Did you know that there are more than 125 million people all over the world that are affected by psoriasis?

So what is psoriasis exactly? Psoriasis is a skin disease that most commonly appears as “plaque psoriasis,” which is raised, inflamed red patches covered by silvery white scales. It can appear anywhere on your body.

Psoriasis is not contagious and may seem like an unattractive and inconvenient part of your life, but it can become more serious. Psoriasis can develop into psoriatic arthritis, a condition characterized by inflammation, pain, and swelling of the joints.

The theme of World Psoriasis Day for this year is focused on psoriasis in children, which has significantly fewer treatment options than those for adults. A child that has psoriasis requires constant care, and it may be difficult for them to develop healthy social relationships at school because of discrimination and bullying.

Sadly, almost 50% of the children that were surveyed by the National Psoriasis Foundation revealed that they were bullied at least one time over the last six months. 38% of the children in the study believed that this bullying was because of their skin condition. Some of the harmful side effects of this classroom discrimination included anxiety, crying, poor academic performance, and even trouble sleeping.

This chronic disease affects 7.5 million Americans and 500,000 children, and it appears that psoriasis is a more serious diagnosis than previously thought.

Is your child one of the many children in the US afflicted with psoriasis? Protect her from school bullying by healing her skin condition with the Body Ecology diet!

New research shows that psoriasis puts you at risk for:

  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • High blood pressure
  • Depression
  • Obesity
  • Crohn’s disease

With documented risks like these, psoriasis is more than just a cosmetic issue.

Common over-the-counter and prescription treatments of psoriasis aim to slow cellular turnover and reduce scaling, but experts have not yet found an “official cure”.

The Inflammation Connection

Psoriasis is linked to systemic inflammation. Inflammation is your body’s response to stress from diet, lifestyle, and/or environment. It causes many diseases like arthritis and cancer, as well as psoriasis and general aging.

At Body Ecology, we teach that one of the main causes of inflammation is low-grade bacterial, viral, or fungal infections in our blood, tissues, and cells.

To learn more about the causes of inflammation, read Inflammation: The Real Cause of All Disease & How to Reduce and Prevent It.

Common treatment of psoriasis includes anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen, but these drugs just temporarily ease the symptoms. Body Ecology’s approach to whole body health provides a road map to wellness for those who suffer from psoriasis by: addressing your internal health, reducing inflammation by conquering infections (especially candidiasis), and healing you and your child’s bodies from the inside out.

This complete healing system is especially important for a child to boost his or her immune system to protect and prevent the harmful condition of psoriasis.

Body Ecology and Psoriasis Treatment

Here is our step-by-step approach to improving your child’s psoriasis with the Body Ecology psoriasis treatment system for health and healing:

  1. Follow our Seven Healthy Eating Principles and Seven Food GroupsBody Ecology’s Seven Universal Principles will lead you to solutions no matter what condition you want to improve or heal. Our seven food groups will tell you exactly what foods to eat and what foods to avoid to reverse your current health problem... including psoriasis.
  2. Probiotics. Probiotics are one of the best ways to introduce healthy bacteria and yeast into your digestive tract where they can help you build your immune system so that your body can overcome the yeast infection. They also help you digest food, get rid of toxins, and fight inflammation that leads to psoriasis.

Here’s an interesting tip: Apply any of our probiotic liquids (like InnergyBiotic) topically to your irritated and scaly skin to ease painful psoriasis!  Simply steep a cotton cloth in the probiotic liquid to create a compress and apply.

  3. Sunshine. Even mainstream approaches to treating psoriasis recognize the sun as a natural remedy. Regular sunshine reduces inflammation, helps your body make vitamin D, and helps heal psoriasis.
  4. Eat organic, unrefined oils, especially those rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, like fish oil and hemp seed oil. Fish oils, raw butter and ghee, egg yolk, and red palm oil are great sources of fats that contain Vitamin E, which offers superior healing to skin damaged by psoriasis.
  5. Cleanse your liver and your colon. This is one of the most important steps you can take to overcome psoriasis. A toxic bowel and poor liver function underlie this skin condition. In fact, your skin reflects the condition of these two organs at all times, and your liver is known to rule your skin, eyes, and joints in Chinese Medicine. Alcohol, drugs (medicinal and recreational), beer, and wine not only harm the liver, but they make your candida infection more acute. Colon cleansing is a must!
  6. Reduce stress. High stress lifestyles increase the level of the stress hormone cortisol in your body and increase inflammation that can exacerbate conditions like psoriasis. Learn positive ways to handle stress and choose a lifestyle that minimizes stressful events and activities to give your body a chance to heal.
  7. Neem powderNeem has been used for centuries to treat skin infections and disorders and may even be as effective as coal tar in treating psoriasis! Even better, neem powder is an all-natural remedy that works.
  8. Healthy soaps. If you’re careful about what you put in your body, then you should also be careful about what you use on your body. Instead of commercial soaps laden with chemicals, why not use healthy soaps that soothe your skin instead of irritating it?
