Prostate cancer. For men, it is the second most prevalent form of cancer. In fact, 1 out of every 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime! Of those, 1 out of 33 men will actually die from the disease.
Even scarier, most men already have early expressions of prostate cancer by their twenties.
Prostate cancer is no longer an older man's disease, even men in their twenties are showing early signs that they are at risk.
Of course early detection plays a big role in treatment; if you catch it early, you have a better chance of beating it, though side effects of treatment can alter your quality of life.
But new approaches to treatment and prevention indicate that diet may be one of the best ways to prevent AND even heal your body from this deadly and common disease.
The Food- Cancer Link
Whether you are a young and healthy man, have just discovered you have high PSA levels (the test that can indicate higher risk for prostate cancer), or if you are actively treating prostate cancer, now is the time to prevent and heal the disease.
The Body Ecology program for health and healing has some excellent tools for anyone trying to prevent or treat prostate cancer.
With a focus on establishing a healthy inner ecosystem full of beneficial microflora in your gut, Body Ecology promotes internal cleansing and healing to create an environment that is not conducive to growing cancer cells.

Unfortunately, because of processed foods and the high sugar, high refined carbohydrate, high protein Standard American Diet, most American men do not take in enough quality nutrients to support optimal health.
Their digestive tracts struggle to break down food and to assimilate the nutrients they eat.
As a result, their immune systems are weaker, their bodies more susceptible to opportunistic cancer cells, and more and more men are then diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Environmental toxins also play a key role in prostate problems as well. The artificial estrogens in the environment are making our boys and men less masculine. This disruption in hormones is often the origin of disorders that affect their prostate and testes. For example, male sperm count has dropped over 50% in just two generations.
The Treatment and Prevention Protocol
Don't let prostate cancer become your fate! Many scientific studies have shown the efficacy of certain foods in treating and preventing prostate cancer.
Foods such as organic ginger, green tea, vegetables, fermented soy products (like delicious miso soup ) and other fermented foods, drinks and probiotics should all be part of your cancer prevention and treatment program.
Ginger and Green Tea: The 5-LO Inhibitors
Researchers have discovered an important link between nutrition and cancer. It is the enzyme 5 Lipoxygenase (or 5-LO for short). 5-LO metabolizes arachidonic acid to produce a chemical called 5-HETE that feeds prostate cancer cells.
Without the essential food 5-HETE, prostate cancer cells cannot thrive. Fortunately, many common foods like ginger and green tea are natural 5-LO inhibitors that prevent the metabolization of arachidonic acid into 5-HETE.
That explains why the lower mortality rate from prostate cancer in cultures that regularly consume ginger, green tea, and other 5-LO inhibitors.
Vegetables Are Anti-Cancer
Vegetables like broccoli, carrots, cabbage, kale and collard greens should be incorporated into your cancer prevention and treatment protocol.
Vegetables have large amounts of dietary fiber. Fiber has been shown to decrease blood levels of excess estrogens from the environment that are found in plastics, chemicals, pesticides and in our food especially meat, milk, eggs, fish etc. Fiber is also important for stopping testosterone from converting into the negative form of testosterone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Both excess estrogen and DHT stimulate prostate cancer cell growth.
Vegetables are also rich in antioxidants that can destroy carcinogens, the substances in your body that cause cancer.
Finally, vegetables are wonderful sources of phytonutrients. These plant-based compounds that keep plants healthy can protect your cells from damage too! When you ferment these vegetables into CV's they are even more nutrient dense and become truly medicinal.
Read Why You Need to Cook These Vegetables for Maximum Nutrition so that you can be sure you are benefiting from all the nutrients vegetables provide.
*A note on lycopene: Many studies show that lycopene, found primarily in cooked tomatoes, can inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells. As a general rule tomatoes are not eaten on The Body Ecology Diet. Blood types A and B do not seem to do well on tomatoes. Blood types O and AB may find they can tolerate them just fine. Tomatoes are a fruit and can be added to salads if you chose to eat them. If you want to obtain the benefits of lycopene you can purchase this supplement in your health food store. As always, adhere to the Principle of Uniqueness to honor your body's individuality and find what is right for you.
Fermented Foods Beverages and Probiotic Liquids
Fermented foods and beverages have been a part of other cultures for thousands of years. (Be sure to read Baghdad's Ancient Secret That Can Help Improve Your Health).
They are also the foundation of the Body Ecology program and a wonderful way to populate your intestines with beneficial microflora.
Fermented soy products, like miso, natto and tempeh have properties that inhibit cancer growth. For more information, read Miso Soup: A Delicious Bowl of Health and Anti-Aging Power.
Fermented foods also keep your body's pH level balanced. When you consume acid-forming foods (processed foods, sugar, foods high in trans fats), your body becomes more acidic and encourages the growth of cancerous cells. Consuming fermented foods and drinks helps keep your blood levels slightly more alkaline, promoting a healthy environment.
Adding Fermented Foods and Beverages in Your Diet
You can begin to incorporate fermented foods and beverages and probiotic liquids into your diet by trying some of these sources for beneficial microflora (good yeast and beneficial bacteria).
- Make your own raw, cultured vegetables at home using Body Ecology's easy recipes and starters. These vegetables will add vitamins, minerals, fiber AND beneficial bacteria for your gut.
- Drink Young Coconut Kefir, a delicious probiotic and mineral-rich beverage that is great for cleansing the liver. All hormones pass through the liver - another reason for nourishing and cleansing this important organ as well.
- Try convenient and delicious ready-made probiotics from Body Ecology. We offer several different and delicious probiotic liquids that make it easy to nourish your gut no matter where you are, including Coco-Biotic and Dong Quai (Dong Quai even contains an herb known to help protect the prostate!)
Fermented foods and drinks, fibrous vegetables and 5-LO inhibitors like ginger and green tea are a great way to enjoy good food while protecting your health. As they say, the best defense is a good offense! Plan ahead today and enjoy great health for all of your tomorrows.
