The Way to BE

The Astrology of Wellbeing: How to Eat for Your Sign in 2011

Hippocrates (ca. 460 BCE - ca. 370 BCE), considered the father of Western medicine, is quoted saying that a physician without knowledge of astrology has no right to call himself a healer.

Of course, much has changed since the times of Hippocrates. However, it is important to note that doctors all over the world are still initiated into their practice by taking the Hippocratic Oath.

Medical astrology, an ancient art that attributes the planets and zodiac signs to different parts of the body, has been practiced in many traditions around the world for centuries with a great deal of success.

Just as the sky is divided into twelve constellations, the human body is split into twelve parts, beginning with the head (Aries) and ending with the feet (Pisces).

Astrology is a symbolic system designed to provide us with a spiritual understanding of life in the solar system. The Body Ecology Diet's Principle of Uniqueness states that we all have individual needs and provides a flexible system of healing that allows each of us to adapt our diet and lifestyle to achieve optimal health. That uniqueness is clearly seen in the following list of the symbolic attributes of the zodiac:

  • Aries, the ram and the leader and head of the zodiac, is associated with the head, as well as the brain, face, eyes, and blood.
  • Taurus, the sign of music and melody, is associated with the neck, throat, and thyroid gland.
  • Gemini, the sign of communication, is naturally associated with the hands, which we use for writing and typing. If you have ever been to Italy, I'm sure you've seen that hands are a big part of conversation there as well. The lungs, arms, shoulders, and nervous system are also attributed to Gemini.
  • Cancer, the mother of life, is associated with the breasts and womb, as well as stomach.
  • Leo, the king, is associated with the spine (our scepter) and the heart.
  • Virgo, the sign of service, is represented by the internal organs that work their magic hidden from the outside world.
  • Libra, the sign of equilibrium, is associated with the kidneys, as well as the lumbar region, buttocks, and ovaries.
  • Scorpio, the sign of sexuality, represents the reproductive organs and the nose. That is why Scorpios are often the best detectives.
  • Sagittarius, the centaur (half-human, half-horse), is related to the thighs and liver. Sagittarius is also the teacher. Notice that many great prophets and teachers have suffered punctures of the liver (Odin, Prometheus, and Christ). Hips and the sciatic nerve are also attributed to Sagittarius.
  • Capricorn, the sign of structure, is associated with the skin, knees, joints, skeletal system, teeth, and bones.
  • Aquarius, the water bearer, rules the shins, calves, ankles, and circulatory system.
  • Pisces, the mystical emotional sign, is associated with the feet (fins for mermaids) and the immune system. Astrology has always suspected that our feelings are directly related to our immune system. Pisces also rules toes, adipose tissues, and the lymphatic system.

Understanding your astrological sign can help you choose the right Body Ecology foods to eat, based on the ancient principles of medical astrology!

To better understand your body and how it relates to astrology, you need to know your ascendant or rising sign, which is determined by your hour of birth.

The rising sign is said to rule or govern your body and explains what sign or energy you chose to focus on in this lifetime. To find out your rising sign, go to this link on my website:

Your rising sign together with your own sign can give clues on how to prevent disease and heal yourself, as well as how better to incorporate the 7 Principles of the Body Ecology Diet. The foods in the diet are nourishing and healing, full of nutrients and specific to healing the gut so that every organ will be fed by rich and healthy blood.

For example, if you are an Aries with Capricorn rising, you need to make sure you eat foods that can nurture your eyesight, brain, and blood (Aries), as well as the bones and marrow (Capricorn).

Are you incorporating the right foods into your diet? While a probiotic-rich diet is essential to all signs, give these foods a try:
