Why Fermented Foods May Help Reduce the Toxic Mercury in Your Body

Mercury toxicity is big news these days, and your body could be burdened by mercury and other heavy metals...possibly without you knowing about it! Whether or not you feel symptoms, you need to know about this environmental and dietary toxin.

Mercury and fish? If you thought fish were safe, you might be afraid to eat them now because of potential mercury toxicity. But microflora in fermented foods can help you get rid of mercury and other heavy metal toxins in your body!

Mercury: A Silent Toxin

You may come into contact with mercury throughout your life, and in a variety of ways. This toxic heavy metal is present in:

  • The air you breathe
  • The water you drink
  • Fish and shellfish, especially shark, swordfish, king mackerel, albacore tuna, and tile fish
  • Dental fillings made of mercury (also known as amalgams)
  • Vaccines made with a mercury preservative

These sources of mercury can expose you to toxic levels that can truly harm your health!

Symptoms of mercury toxicity include:

  • Depression
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Memory problems
  • Irritability
  • Tremors
  • Muscle spasms
  • Numbness and tingling
  • Poor coordination
  • Chronic candida and other infections
  • Alzheimer's
  • Kidney dysfunction
  • Infertility
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Food allergies
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Thyroid problems

But don't let these symptoms and our current environment crises scare you.

Fermented foods can help you cleanse your body of mercury and other heavy metal toxins!

Fermented foods and drinks are part of just about every ancient culture. Fermentation breaks down the nutrients in foods by the action of beneficial microorganisms like bacteria and yeast (microflora). The end result is foods and drinks that are easier to digest, have more nutrients and are preserved longer. In fact, ancient peoples used this method to preserve foods long before refrigeration!

Examples of fermented foods are yogurt and cultured vegetables, like sauerkraut and kimchi. They are KEY to building your inner ecosystem and boosting your immunity.

Natural Mercury Detoxification

There are several ways to remove toxins, like mercury, from your body.

Chelators are chemical substances that bind to toxins to remove them via urine or bowel movements. Natural chelators include amino acids, selenium, garlic, cilantro, and chlorella algae. These natural chelators latch on to toxic molecules in your body and can even change them into less harmful substances.

Adequate amounts of minerals and vitamins C & E also protect your body from the damaging effects of mercury.

Besides natural chelators, vitamins and minerals, microflora can be your key to helping your body naturally get rid of heavy metal toxicity. Microflora are good bacteria and yeast (also called probiotics), which help you digest food, absorb nutrients, cleanse your system, and boost immunity.

The microflora in your gut also work to change toxic mercury into a form that your body can get rid of more easily.

Scientists have found that a healthy diet is essential to sustaining healthy levels of microflora, and those microflora promote automatic mercury detoxification. One study found that people who consumed large amounts of fiber had lower levels of mercury accumulation. If followed properly the Body Ecology Diet is a high-fiber diet, and prebiotics like EcoBloom are a type of insoluble fiber that serves as food for the microflora found in probiotic foods and liquids.

With proper nutrition and healthy levels of beneficial bacteria, you can remove already accumulated mercury and avoid further toxicity.

In addition to fermented foods, try Ocean Plant Extract, a pure and concentrated source of marine algae high in vitamins and minerals. It can protect your body from toxins AND cleanses out accumulated heavy metals!

Microflora for Health

Clearly we must avoid sources of mercury. For all of humanity and our planet to heal we must permanently eliminate it from our environment. However, it has become so prevalent in our world today that is now absolutely essential for us humans to eat microbial-rich probiotic foods like those found in our Body Ecology system of healing. Be mindful to create an environment in your intestines where mercury-busting microflora thrive.

To encourage the growth of detoxifying bacteria in your gut you can:

  • Feed the probiotics (good bacteria and yeast) with prebiotics like onions, apple cider vinegar, asparagus, and bananas. Read Why Prebiotics Are Essential to Your Heart Health & Immune Systemto learn more about the benefits of prebiotics. Try fermented foods and drinks that deliver beneficial bacteria straight to your intestines. Two of our favorites are CocoBiotic, which is high in vitamins and minerals and Dong Quai, which balances female hormones and supports prostate health.Discover which probiotic beverage is best for you.
  • Eliminate processed foods and sugar from your diet. Processed foods and sugar create an environment in your body that supports pathogenic (bad) bacteria and yeast. The Body Ecology Dietgives you a way to eat deliciously, while removing all processed foods from your diet and reducing cravings.
  • Supplement your diet with powerful natural chelators like chlorella. Body Ecology's Ocean Plant Extract is a concentrated formula that can help you cleanse your body of heavy metals like mercury.

By avoiding dietary and environmental sources of mercury and using the natural detoxification powers of microflora in fermented foods and drinks, you can live without the damaging effects of mercury.
