"FROM THE TONIC BAR"
Lauren Stamile, Grey's Anatomy Actress & Body Ecology Diet Success Story

Interview by Certified Body Ecologist Randall Zamcheck

In the first of the ongoing "From The Tonic Bar" series of interviews with Body Ecology Diet success stories, Randall Zamcheck - Certified Body Ecologist and Health Coach in Los Angeles - interviews Lauren Stamile, age 31, who is the newest cast member of ABC's hit show Grey's Anatomy.

What was your problem or symptoms that led you to the B.E.D.?
Gosh, I had a lot of problems AND symptoms. I've had digestive issues for the last twenty years and that's been a cycle that, until the Body Ecology Diet, I was unable to break no matter what I tried. Also, I was plagued with a very strange allergic disorder called idiopathic anaphylaxis, which basically means "we don't know what you're allergic to." I've probably had 50 or so allergic reactions with varying severity over the past 13 years and since the diet, I haven't had any problems at all, which is remarkable.

How did you discover the B.E.D.?
Through you and the Tonic Bar. After relating my symptoms, you explained what was going on in my body in a way no doctor had before and that the diet was going to help me rebuild my immune system. And you've guided me through it the whole time. There was a guy at the tonic bar the other day that you put on a full program and he called you "a gentleman and an artist." That pretty much sums it up. And I think what you guys do, how you explain the diet and blend it with herbs and supplements, really made me feel empowered, that I could take my health into my hands.

How long have you been on it now?
About 5 months.

Was it hard to do at first?
No. It was hard for my MIND to wrap itself around doing it. I had heard about it from you over and over for a long time before I actually tried it. When I committed to it, it was surprisingly one of the easiest things I've ever done. Almost as if once I started doing it, my body was asking me to turn it into a lifestyle. Really what I had to get past was my mind, being mentally ready to really want to let go of old things internally that weren't working for me and choose to get well. I think I've tried every diet known to man. I was a vegetarian for about 8 years and then tried vegan and raw, hoping to find a solution to my health concerns. So it didn't seem as extreme to me as others may find it.

What is the best thing about the diet?
I would say that the best thing about the diet is, as I stated in the answer to the question before, that it seems almost natural for my body. Once you start doing it, your body has a big "A-ha!" moment, and it finally knows exactly what it wants. I feel like, for the first time, I am using food and processing it in a way that it is actually fuel for my body.

What is the hardest thing about the diet?
The hardest thing is recognizing how much of the food that is offered most easily to us is not good for us. We are so conditioned. I think our taste buds from a very young age are conditioned to want sugar and things that are very processed. So, in some ways, I feel like, "Oh man, I'm missing out on what everyone else is eating", but I do realize that every time I've tried to eat those things since starting the diet, my body hates them. It's kind of a bummer. I wish the Body Ecology Diet was more mainstream.

What has helped you with sticking to the diet?
You, for sure. And talking to other people doing the diet. Having that support is crucial. The book is a fantastic resource, which I go back to again and again. The kefir really got rid of my sugar cravings and that may be the biggest hurdle.

And I think the way that I feel. There are days I've never felt so good before in my life and that's inspiring me to keep with it.

Is there anything that would help you do the diet better?
I think that classes or support groups to meet once a week and have people to bounce your experiences off of. Also, I would love love love if there was a Body Ecology restaurant. As an actress, when I'm working, it's hard to find the time to cook, which I end up doing, but I think I lose out on sleep. I would love a food delivery service, similar to the Zone, where they could deliver it to your door.

You stated that the diet helped you overcome your health problems, but you had mentioned to me what some of the other actors had said to you about how you look...
Yeah. I keep getting comments from friends about my skin. It's the clearest I've ever seen it. Even my eyes are brighter. And as far as my weight is concerned, it's almost as if I've lost a whole layer of inflammation or puffiness. Which must have been from the wrong foods. I also feel like I hold onto muscle mass a lot easier. And beyond the comments regarding physical changes, I have had several people tell me that my mood is more even, that I seem happier, well-rested. And that is definitely how I feel.

What's your favorite B.E.D. recipe?
I got a recipe from Carly Balz, another CBE, that I love. Sautéing sea vegetables, hijiki is my favorite, with whatever you want to put in there, peppers, onions, garlic, kale. Turkey or salmon. With rosemary and thyme. From the book, I like the vanilla pudding and butter cookies. I think I make baked kale chips, which Carly also told me about, almost every other day.

Any advice for people just starting the diet?
I would say, "Congratulations! You have found something really great." Give it three months. Three months at the very least. As

Donna suggests in the book, people's cleansing processes vary and there are some parts of it that may not be pleasant, but you'll get into the groove and then you'll see the results that will be lasting.

Any advice for people on the diet to improve their daily routine?
Sure. If they live in Los Angeles, they really need to go to the Tonic Bar! That's been a life-saver for me. Everything that you make is B.E.D. Every morning I make a drink that you put together for me. With Donna's greens, tocotrienols, fiber, herbs, the Reishi, the Ho Shou Wu for hormone balance, MSM, stevia, fish oil. I do a mineral drink which has really made a difference. And the kefir drink you make that tastes like an Orange Julius, if anyone remembers that, is delicious.

Lauren, thanks so much for your time.
Thank you. And thank you, Donna, for the diet!
